Corporate affiliation
In good company
ACCIONA works with some of the world’s leading institutions and government organizations to share and gain knowledge for the collective improvement and advancement of the world in which we live. No company, country or organization can meet the global challenges we face alone.
Our commitment is to stand for the values of corporate responsibility: maintenance and improvement of the social environment, sustainable development and promotion of initiatives based on sustainability, social wellbeing and community.
Global collaborations
United Nations Global Compact
ACCIONA has been a member of the United Nations Global Compact since 2005. It is a purely voluntary initiative based on adopting, supporting and promoting principles in the areas of human rights, labor, the environment and anti-corruption.
At ACCIONA, we are committed to incorporating these principles into our daily activities. All improvements are implemented with public accountability and transparency.
World Business Council for Sustainable Development
WBCSD is a global association of 180 companies, bound together by a commitment to sustainable development through innovation, eco-efficiency and corporate responsibility. Members are from more than 30 countries and 20 major industrial sectors.
ACCIONA is an active member of the WBCSD, participating in a number of working groups on Climate Change and Energy, Sustainable Building and the Role of the Company in Future Society, among other initiatives.
Index presence
ACCIONA is present in international indexes on sustainability and socially responsible investments.
Dow Jones Sustainability World Index
In September 2007, ACCIONA was selected for the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI) and the Dow Jones STOXX Sustainability Index (DJSI STOXX)—both international indices referencing sustainability-focused and socially responsible investments. ACCIONA achieved the maximum weighting as the leader in our sector (Heavy Construction).
In September 2008, ACCIONA held its leadership position, gaining the highest weighting in its sector once again and improving its weighting over the previous year.
The DJSI World Index lists those companies deemed most advanced in terms of economic, social and environmental sustainability. Of the 2,500 international companies that make up the Dow Jones World Index, only 320 companies are selected for the DJSI World, 20 of which are Spain-based companies (2008).
The DJSI STOXX Index lists those European companies committed to sustainability.
The information required is exhaustive, the analysis is rigorous and the weighting system, which evaluates all candidates against the company that produced the best results (“best in class”), confirms that this group of indices is the world reference for investment in companies that hold corporate responsibility and sustainable development in the highest regard. Currently, investment bodies manage around $6 billion in more than 16 countries referenced to the Dow Jones Sustainability indices.
KLD Global Climate 100 Index
ACCIONA has been selected for the KLD Global Climate 100 Index, which promotes investment in 100 multinational companies that demonstrate leadership in the fight against climate change through renewable energies, clean technologies, process efficiency and fuels for the future.
In collaboration with the Global Energy Network Institute, KLD launched this index in July 2005, in response to the growing demand of institutions and individuals for strategic investment to address global warming.
Other indexes
ACCIONA is part of the annual Global 100, an index that includes the most sustainable multinational companies. Mcorporate Knights, Inc., and Innovest Strategic Value Advisors announced the 100 companies that are in the list at the World Economic Forum, in Davos, Switzerland.
ACCIONA is in other indexes that value investment in sustainability, such as the S&P Global Clean Energy Index.
